About Me

Lish Montesa, MA, LPC-Associate, NCC

Hi, I'm Lish.

I specialize in working with preteens, adolescents, college students, and young adults ages 12 - 25. I offer in-person therapy sessions in Lake Conroe and "walk and talk" and horse-assisted sessions in Magnolia. Online counseling is an option for anyone residing in Texas. Life can be tough, and I feel fortunate to support young clients in navigating the many changes and adjustments occurring during this life stage. I tend to lean into CBT, DBT, ACT, and Family Systems counseling. Depending on client interests, I like to incorporate animals, art, music, or writing exercises into sessions. I strive to assist clients in feeling comfortable and at ease in sessions. I'm genuine and relatable in my counseling approach. Above all, I'm on the client's side and an ally in the journey.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) supervised by Dr. Kendra McLaughlin, PhD, LPC-S.  As a proud graduate of Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School, I earned a Masters degree in Counseling specializing in Addiction. I typically work with young people navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, social pressure, substance use and addiction. I've had professional experiences at a Betty Ford outpatient center, a private practice, a community health agency and homeless shelter, as well as on career counseling and student life teams at several reputable universities including the University of San Francisco and University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Animals have also always been a huge part of my life and I love sharing the positive impact of the human-animal bond with clients. Sessions incorporating horse-assisted therapy are offered at Inspiration Ranch in Magnolia and weave in Natural Lifemanship principles. On a personal note, I share my home with my dog, Roxy, and two sweet cats, Kosmo and Koa.

I've lived in multiple states and have traveled globally, bringing a well-rounded life view to the counseling space. Taking routes down a few different career paths, I have always found myself supporting young people 1:1. I have a small family of my own with two kids and can easily relate to the stress and joy caregiving presents. I love and appreciate the outdoors and enjoy exploring the local area.

Whether you may be a prospective client or a concerned parent, please reach out for a free consultation. I look forward to connecting with you!
